Peter Maher: "I think I am by no means a technophile, I’m probably more likely be a technophobe but I have seen the requirements of auto-enrolment and that is that, you know, you must enrol a member of staff within three months of him joining your firm.  He may choose to opt out once you’ve enrolled him.  He can do that within a month or at a later date.  He can’t do via his employee.  He must come to an adviser or the insurer.  But three years later or three years after the date at which the firm auto enrolled its first member of staff, he has to be auto enrolled again and put back in.  So you will have people joining and leaving automatically.  And if you missed those dates, you’re in breach.  The only way you can do that is through technology.  There will be human error if you try and do it by man or woman and the amount of men and women it will take to do it will be huge.  So technology will save you an awful lot of money in manpower and it will save you the pain of making a mistake which may ultimately cost you by way of penalty."
